Günther Uecker gained great reputation with his white painted, relief-like nail pictures and is now one of the most important contemporary German artists; his prints fetch up to 8,500 euro at international auctions
Object is regular taxed. Differential taxation is not possible.
Brush gestures in different diagonal arrangement and splashes of paint cover almost full sheet the image area of this lithograph with an all-over structure. Even if they are abstract elements, they seem to refer an important design element of the artist: nails with their linear shafts and circular heads that here bring the image area vegetation equal to bloom.



The lithograph is signed and dated lower right in pencil ‘Uecker 91’ and dedicated lower left in pencil ‘für Josef Kovacs’. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 66.2 x 50 cm, the sheet 70.2 x 50.6 cm.

Günther Uecker (b. 1930)

Günther Uecker studied painting in Wismar and Berlin-Weißensee from 1949 to 1953. He left the GDR and moved to West Germany to continue his studies at the art academy in Düsseldorf under Otto Pankok. Already in 1956/57, he created his first relief-like ‘nail paintings’, for which he is internationally known today. Some of his art can be classified as kinetic art. He represented Germany in 1970 and 1972 at the Biennale in Venice and took more than once part in the documenta. He was a professor at the academy in Düsseldorf from 1974 to 1995, and has won numeral awards. Günther Uecker lives and works in Düsseldorf. (fea)
