Brass blade front and fixed buck horn style rear sights. The top barrel flat is marked "G.P. FOSTER" behind the rear sight and the left side of the frame is marked "G.P. FOSTER / PATENT / INTENDED". Light floral engraved frame and hammer, flat bottom trigger guard with finger spur and grip extension, double set triggers, metal forearm, hickory ramrod secured by two brass pipes and maple stock with a cheekpiece and steel crescent buttplate, with toe extension. The bottom flat of the receiver (forward of trigger guard) is stamped "48". The upper left side of the rear set trigger is marked "778".

Condition: Fine. The barrel retains 60% plus period blue finish with areas fading to a smooth plum patina, showing some minor spotting. The frame retains traces of original faded case colors with a smooth silver gray on the balance. The trigger guard and buttplate have a gray patina with some light spotting. The stock has been lightly sanded and had a coat of varnish applied, and remains very good with exception of a minor crack on the right side at the buttplate and a few minor handling marks. The hammer does not hold a cock position. The markings are legible.
