This is an original G.C. (Gerry) Wentworth bronze sculpture titled "Cougar". Gerry Wentworth was a Great Falls, Montana artist who grew up in the era just after Charles Russell's life. He was largely self taught and spent the majority of his life working in painting, sculpture and wood carving. Wentworth's works have been widely exhibited in such places as the C.M. Russell Show, the Phippen Art Show and the Frank Tenney Johnson Show. In 1981, he won Best of Show at the Northwest Americana Art Show. This sculpture shows the cougar positioned on a rock outcrop. The piece shows fine detail and fantastic artistic ability. The bronze sits on a solid walnut hardwood base with a brass placard that reads "Cougar G.C. Wentworth". The sculpture is in very good condition. It measures 6" x 8.5" and is 8.5" tall. The bronze has been signed by the artist. It is dated "1974" and is numbered 7/10. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and a printed biography of the artist. The bronze originally sold in the gallery for $1,800.
