Full stocked flintlock Kentucky style rifle, .50 cal., 41” octagon barrel, brown finish, striped maple stock with brass furniture and fancy patchbox, barrel signed “S. Miller”. This beautiful work of gunsmithing American antique art is in overall very good condition showing a dark brown patina evenly distributed on the barrel and a lighter brown patina on the lock plate marked “Warran_ _ _ “. The action is good, the bore dark, the wood is very good with a lovely patina over striped maple graining; there are scattered slight nicks, mars and scratches from carry and storage and an old repair to a crack at the wrist. The patchbox is lightly engraved on the door and plain on the three side mounts around the door’s hinge; the left rear of the butt stock is tastefully carved and there are silver and brass accent inlays on the wrist, left side of the butt stock and on the bottom of the stock beneath the patchbox. This is really an attractive classic Kentucky and would display nicely in any gunroom collection. Est.: $1,500-$3,000.
