Description: 1853 round ¼ Dollar, BG-209, Die State II (cracked from rim to head just left of 7th star), PCGS MS63, issued by Frontier, Deviercy & Co., successor to Joseph Brothers’ coining business in 1853. Low Rarity 7. Similar small Liberty head, 10 stars around, amateurish reverse die with reversed “4” in fraction! 10 recorded specimens, probably some duplication, 16 in Pop Report now. Known to have actually been issued in 1853: two examples were recovered from the wreck of the S.S. Winfield Scott, which sailed December 1, 1853. lovely, unimprovable Choice Brilliant Uncirculated, with colorful toning both sides. 5 certified at this grade, only 1 higher. PCGS MS63 William C.
