Being assigned a horse and equipment, officers, assignment of pickets, distribution of clothing, discipline. "...They said we had the best lot of horses that had been inspected. My horse was appraised at 120 dollars...We have not drilled much yet...They intend to make the 2nd Regiment the crack regiment of the state...There has been one man turned out of the regiment for getting drunk...We wll not have to recruit...They keep coming in all the time to join us...."
