1872 $2 1/2 AU55 PCGS. The 1872, with a mintage of 3,000 pieces, is difficult to locate in most grades. Indeed, fewer than 100 pieces in all grades have been certified by PCGS and NGC. This Choice AU specimen displays rich apricot-gold color, and retains a fair amount of mint luster. All of the design elements are well brought up, and a few minute marks are visible on each side. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive. A hobby envelope is included, and is inscribed "1872 2.50 ex f was proof/a fairly good proof right now."
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)

Important notice:
