<B>1857-S $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> The 1857-S quarter eagle can be located in Very Fine through the lower ranges of About Uncirculated, but becomes elusive in higher levels of preservation. The AU58 piece in this lot retains ample luster on attractive peach-gold surfaces. Well struck, and remarkably clean on both sides. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive.
