<B>1847-D $2 1/2 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 9-M. The 1847-D quarter eagle can be located in AU with some difficulty, while Mint State coins are quite scarce. The high-end AU specimen that we offer in the current lot displays apricot-gold surfaces that are laced with a hint of light green. The design elements are exquisitely defined, save for some of the usual softness in the hair at Liberty's ear. A few unobtrusive hairlines are noted on each side. A pleasing all-around example. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive.
