1849-D G$1 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-A. Both varieties of this year share the same obverse. The 1-A is attributed by the right edge of the mintmark being below the far right knot of the bow. This near-Mint example displays lime-green patina over both sides. The design elements are generally bold, with the usual weakness in the hair curls below LIBERTY. Die clash marks are evident on the obverse. A couple of inoffensive, faint pinscratch-like marks across the obverse portrait, and a couple more on the upper left reverse field are mentioned for accuracy. Purchased in the 1930's at face value by Karl Stecher Sr. from coins turned in by the public as per President Roosevelt's March 9, 1933 directive. Accompanied by a collector's envelope noted "1849-D 1.00 vf to ex f."
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)

Important notice:
