1986 S$1 Silver Eagle--Reverse Struck Through Emery Disc--MS66 PCGS, and a 1986 Silver Eagle--Struck on an Emery Disc--PCGS. A mated pair with consecutive PCGS serial numbers. Emery discs are thin, round wafers with a sandpaper-like texture. They were presumably used by the mint to finish dies. An emery disc with an unpeeled backing covered a silver eagle planchet at the moment of strike. This produced a first-year 1986 silver eagle with a normal obverse and a 100% struck-through reverse, and an emery disc struck with a reverse silver eagle die. The reverse has a rough matte appearance, as made, and the borders display golden-brown toning. Fortunately, the emery disc struck through the silver eagle has not only survived, but it is presently paired with its struck-through silver eagle. The granular and dark ebony-gray emery disc displays the silver eagle reverse design, and the opposite side is the printed peel-off paper disc backing, which displays a faint incuse impression of the reverse motifs.
From The Pacific Coast Mint Error Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
