<B>1856-D G$1 AU58 PCGS.</B></I> Variety 8-K. This issue is one of the foremost rarities in the gold dollar series, with a low survival rate from a paltry mintage of 1,460 pieces. PCGS and NGC have certified only 90 examples of this key date in all grades, with fewer than 15 coins reaching Mint State.<BR> The high-end AU specimen in this lot retains generous luster and possesses rich peach-gold patination. The design elements are sharply impressed, save for minor softness in the 5 of the date, and show mild contrast with the partially prooflike fields.
