Friedrich (Federico) Sustris (Italy (?) ca. 1540 - 1599 Munich) attributed to, A Youth (Hercules?), facing a fork in the road, oil on canvas,115,5 x 172 cm, w/ frame, (Wo).€ 50.000 - 70.000 US $ 49.500 - 69.300 Tradition has it that the "Hercules" portrays Duke Maximilian I. of Bavaria. Expert's Report: Ludwig Meyer, Archiv für Kunstgeschichte,15.4.2000. In a letter to Meyer dated 22.5.2000 Dr. Klaus Ertz confirms the former's supposition that Jan Brueghel the Elder collaborated in this painting: "I consider it possible, even likely, that the flowers and plants in the foreground can be attributed to Jan Brueghel the Elder". Friedrich Sustris trained by his father Lambert Sustris, then studied under Vasari in Italy and in 1564 did work on the catafalque of Michelangelo. He died in Munich where he was involved in the building of the famous St Michael's Church.
