French made Unmarked Deluxe Model 1860 Cavalry Officer's Sword, of near presentation quality, with U.S./E Pluribus Unum, eagle, and Stand of Arms etching to 35'' blade. Decorative skate and wire-wrapped grip with laurel carved Phrygian type pommel and three-bow crossguard, showing early Nouveau style gold washed throat, chape, and bands to blued iron scabbard. Probably presented just post-war to Brevet Col. William Betts Keeler during a GAR function. Included are various certificates naming Keeler and dating from the 1860s through the 1890s. Also included is a photo of the Colonel with friends taken in a studio during one of these reunions, all wearing their GAR medals, along with a silk 45-star flag measuring 28''x42''. Plus a 1900 dated GAR Reunion medal with a Civil War era image of the Col. Condition is very good with even patination to brass and iron scabbard. Gold wash has thinned to approx. 10%-15%. Drag with light scuffs and impressions. Blade with minor carbon spotting near ricasso and to central part. Skate wrap with discoloration and seams showing to spine of handle. Documents need minor conservation and show some tatters and losses. Flag shows minor discoloration, repairs and fraying. Medal is vivid, with tears and splits to ribbon but mostly present. Picture is fine. Est.: $1,200-$1,800.
