French grenadier style sword, circa 1767-1781. Refer: H. L. Peterson The American Sword number 3, 1767 pattern. The sword shows a two-piece cast brass hilt with fluted grip. Measures approx. 25-1/2”, 30-1/2” overall, 1-1/2” at widest part and tapers slightly to the tip. The back edge shows a blood groove that extends 3/4 of the way down the blade and is unstopped. The blade is in fair to good condition showing heavy patina, light to heavy pitting, some losses at the edge, and the hilt shows a deep patina and is completely uncleaned overall. Just the type of French sword that could have come to America during the revolution. No scabbard. Est: $600 - $1,200
