The lot features an original French Tabatiere Breech Loading Rifle. The piece shows a breech loading center fire hammer action and has a clean bore. The piece is from circa 1800-1850. The The rifle is commonly known as a “Tabatiere” after the French for “snuff box” as the breech block resembled a snuff box. Most of these guns were later converted to “Zulu” shotguns. There are various hallmarks and the rare very early fire arm is believed to be complete. Barrel is marked "Modoc". Overall measures 47.25" long with a 30.25" barrel. Hammer shows slight damage as pictured.
