Autograph letter signed by Etienne Eustache Bruix, a French revolutionary General given charge of the Boulogne flotilla for the abandoned invasion of England. Dated 16 October 1798 (''25th Vendemaire 7th year of the French Republic''), Eustache writes in French to a ''Citizen Teyron'', Guard of the Brigade, in part, ''I have received...the two examples of your school of artillery of the sea that you have sent to me, I have read them and am pleased. Your courage has not gone unnoticed... interested in working together and using the experience your have displayed...E. Bruix''. The year of writing Bruix was made Minister of the Navy, and a year later began the well known and fruitless ''Bruix' expedition of 1799'' in which he sailed a fleet of French ships in search of battle. Document with French Republic letterhead measures 7'' x 9.25''. Minor staining else near fine condition.
