French Paris Rococo Revival marquetry dressing table Cabriole legs 1850.French Louis XV style metamorphoses Lady dressing table made during the Napoleon lll period in France 1850. Locked front drawer & front work drawer at bottom of table. Original mercury Mirror on back of top of table. When folded up reveals a interior of rosewood vertical rows inside for make-up. This beautiful rare piece of French furniture has scroll & lower engraved brass Ormolu mounts on masterfully inlayed marquetry veneered with mahogany, kingwood, and tulipwood, holly, and various other woods. On delicate Cabriole legs Dressing table also called toilet table: a table used for the toilet or dressing. The term originally was applied in the 17th century to small tables with two or three drawers. It soon became common practice to conceal the fittings of the dressing table when they were not in use, and great ingenuity was exercised by 18th-century cabinetmakers to combine elaborate fittings with a handsome piece of furniture.
