French Naval cutlass, marked “Chateaulerauls 1861” showing French proofs, engraved anchor, number 13 stamped on reverse of ricasso, with brass mounted original leather scabbard. The cutlass measures 32” overall with 26-3/4” blade. The blade is of heavy and wide proportions. The blade is in very good to near fine condition showing its original polish and edge, some slight staining, just some slight erosion and pinprick pitting just starting in a few areas. The scabbard is good to very good with some small scuffs, slight losses, slight amount of opening to the scenes, but at least very good for its age. The black enamel painted hilt, grip, and guard, show a dark patina and are also very good with just normal aging. An exceptional example with a marvelous blade. Est: $600 - $1,200
