Pre-1898 Original French Made Hotchkiss Mountain Gun, #466 on carriage and gun, 1.65 cal., 46'' black barrel, 38'' olive wheels and carriage with brass and iron fittings, and cleaning brush. Breech is marked with serial number with circular ''Hotchkiss Cie/Paris''. Carriage is similarly marked with brass nomenclature plate and matching serial number. Ca. 1870-1900. This particular cannon has been viewed on several television shows, as well as in the movie ''Hidalgo'', with letter from Artillery Advisor to the movie Rick Pohlers. The Hotchkiss gun has a somewhat infamous reputation as it was used in the final days of the American Indian campaign. Condition is excellent as partially refurbished, with correct shade of green paint to spokes and carriage, baked-on black finish to tube, and an extremely accurate reproduction of the often missing cleaning brush. Action functions as designed, bore is good. Rear sight, although not pictured, is included. Est.: $30,000-$40,000. (Antique)
