French Model 1777 Charleville Flintlock Cavalry Pistol (1780), by St. Etienne, .69 cal., 7-3/8'' bright barrel, brass frame, triggerguard and butt cap; European walnut stock, with belt clip. Barrel is dated 1779, with clear ''Avril A 1780'' cartouche to right side of stock. Frame with ''(crown)/L'' inspector's mark, as inspected by Lambert (1777-1784). Condition is excellent. Metal surfaces show very light cleaning. Stock with small dings and impressions. Good action and bore. This exact type pistol was often found in the hands of Napoleon I troops and in the hands of American officers in the American Revolution. It is also the basis for the American North & Cheney flintlock pistol. Est.: $1,500-$2,500. (Antique)
