This lovely Louis XV fruitwood marble-top commode dates from the mid 18th century and was appraised by Sotheby's in 1998 for $22,000. It measures 49" wide and 36" high. It features a serpentine marble top in grey with veins of white and pale gold, over a serpentine-shaped chest with two short drawers over two long drawers. It has a curved apron with a shaped drop in the center, and ends in flared feet. It has its original brasses and there is no key. Each drawer has been fitted with luxurious padded cream-colored upholstery with red floral motif.

These items come from the collection of Roni Steinberg Sokoloff, and resided in her former 63-acre estate in Bedford New York known as Cantitoe Farms. This commode was purchased by Ms. Sokoloff in the 1980s, and was appraised by Sotheby's for $22,000 in 1998. We will be happy to provide a copy of the appraisal at time of purchase.
