Les Noces de Cana (The Wedding at Cana)

This is a French print on paper, done by Goupil et Cie, Paris. The print is on paper, backed by cardboard. It is in good antique condition, because the paper needs some conservation.

Circa 1870. The frame is gilded and painted.

This is an engraving by Z. Prevost, from the original painting done by Paul Veronese, now belonging to the National Museum of Paris. It was commissioned in 1562 by the Benedictine monsatery in Venice, Italy and was completed in 15 months.

Group et Cie (imprinters) were amongst the leading art dealers in 19th century France. They later concentrated on buying, selling, and editing prints, paintings, drawings, industrial images, and photographic/heliographic procedures. Vincent Van Gogh's uncle and godfather, at one point, was a partner in the firm. Vincent and his brother Theo were brought into the firm in 1869 and 1873.
