This is a rare and unusual French Faience Lady Double Salt made in the Desvres region of France. The subject matter includes a lady with two faces, bonnets, and sets of arms holding two baskets, with a décor of dots and flowers. The outsides of the baskets are textured in relief; 1792 is on the base of the skirt. The modeling, decorating, and glaze are well done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with bright dark blue, brilliant lemon yellow, iron red, and sage green. The bottom inside is glazed; the foot rim is unglazed. The underside is marked GM in under glaze blue, the mark of GEORGE MARTEL for the period after 1920, and 0 and 65 for the decorators number and the style. The modeling, decor, and glaze are masterfully done with typical colors of Desvres pottery: creamy white background decorated with bright dark blue, brilliant lemon yellow, iron red, and sage green. Please note this is not Quimper, but Desvres faience, fine French art pottery. Dimensions (in inches): 7.2 Tall X 3.6 Wide X 5.5 Deep. Weight 13.2 Oz. The date is circa 1930. The item is in very good condition other than firing flaws and minor wear; there have been no repairs or restorations. Shipping and Insurance USPS Priority Mail within the U.S. is $15.00. Thanks for bidding!
