French & Indian War DS 1756
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Interesting receipt signed by Connecticut resident Francis Willett who loaned a gun to the colony for use at Crown Point. Dated 18 August 1756, receipt reads, ''Recd…five pounds…for the use of my Gun [by] the Government in the Expedition against Crown point.'' 6.25'' x 4'' document illustrates the ad hoc and poorly conceived nature of the early operations against the French. Arms were in such short supply that the colony was forced to resort to measures like this to arm their militia. Light creases and edge wear, else excellent.
