French Flintlock Infantry Musket with U.S. Surcharged Marking
This flintlock infantry musket was produced at the Maubeuge Arsenal in France. The lock is script marked "M de / Maubeuge" in front of the hammer, with "US" marked vertically on the rear of the lock plate behind the hammer. Three barrel bands with the front band featuring a brass blade front sight. The bands are secured with a spring. The barrel is equipped with a bayonet lug. Straight grip stock with sling swivels. Complete with a button head iron ramrod.

Fair. Overall the musket has a smooth brown patina, with some black paint on the hammer. There is some minor pitting, with oxidation on the buttplate. The stock is fair with minor cracks present on the flats, forearm underside and at the buttplate, along with some absent chips and some minor dings and scratches. A plate screw is missing and the rear band spring is broken. The barrel has a crude weld repair near the middle band. The markings are weak, but legible.
