A French Directoire patinated bronze and Ormolu or gilt bronze figural group of a Blackamoor and parrot. Although very Empire and Neoclassical this item is from the Directiore period from the 18th century the period just before the First French Empire period began. French, Circa: 1795-1800. Measuring: 12.25" high. Weight: 10 pounds. <BR><BR>

The figural group depicts a young muscular male youth nubian holding a large parot in his left hand. The Blackamoor is dressed in European trowsers. The figure is mounted upon a large circular column in detailed ormolu with top circular support carved from a hardstone of Agate. The ormolu column base is mounted upon a square plinth of Egyptian red-brown Porphyry.

The bronze most probably attributed to Jean-Simon Deverberie(1764-1824).<BR><BR>

Lost wax method of bronze casting. Hand chasing and chiseling of the surface. Original patina present and intact. The ormolu is Mercury gilded with both Matt finish and highly burnished areas of highlight. Gilding is original and in tact.
