Freeland Mining Co.
Incorporated in New York. Cert. #2362 issued May 27, 1886 to John M. Dumont for 100 shares. Signed by D. Herdeval, secretary and Louis Rosenfled, President. The mines in Freeland benefited the population of the town that was founded in about 1880. The site is near Idaho Springs. When the mines faded, so did the town. Today, there are a few relics left including the shaft houses and mine dumps [ghosttowns.com]. In 1886 alone, Clear Creek County boasted a grand total of $2,725,053 in ore, second only to Lake County (likely coming from Leadville) [Kimball, Production of Gold and Silver in the United States, 1886].
