Highly decorated British field marshal (1832–1914) best known for leading the British victory during the Second Boer War. ALS signed “Roberts,” one page, 4.75 x 7.25, Windsor Castle letterhead, November 16, 1907. Letter to John Solano, the inventor of the Solano Battle-practice Target and Section Fire Target, which would be used by the British War Office for musketry training. In part: "I am much impressed by the practical usefulness of your war target, and hope soon to see it very generally adopted. What steps do you propose to take to this end, especially with regard to the rules, conditions governing instructions, competitions, &c—and how can I help? I can conceive the target being very valuable as a means of teaching…if you have not shown your scheme to the authorities, & it would be agreeable to you to do so, I will gladly give you a letter of introduction…The journal of the Society of Miniature Rifle Clubs is also open to you." In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Roberts's hand.
