Highly decorated British field marshal (1832–1914) best known for leading the British victory during the Second Boer War. ALS signed “Roberts,” three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.75 x 7.25, Windsor Castle letterhead, November 15, 1907. Letter to John Solano, in part: “I must apologize for not having sooner acknowledged the receipt of your letter of the 3rd instant. I have been somewhat busy the last few days and have not much time to myself. I am much impressed by the practical usefulness of your war target and hope soon to see it very generally adopted. What steps do you propose to take…especially with regard to the rules, constitutions, governing instruction, competitions, etc.—and how can I help? I can conceive the target being very valuable as a means of teaching, judging distances, and, if you have not shown your scheme to the authorities, it would be agreeable to you to do so. I will gladly give you a letter of introduction.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Roberts’s own hand.
