Frederick Morgan (1847-1927), Waiting for Mama, oil on canvas, 34 x 30cm Indistinctly signed and inscribed with the artist's address, 5 Clyde Street, London, on a fragment of an old label on the stretcher, and bears title on another label on the frame. The painting bears an old label on the reverse with the title "Waiting for Mama". However it appears to be the work entitled "During Sermon" which was exhibited at the French Gallery, London, Winter Exhibition, 1873, No. 34. It was also exhibited at the Society of British Artists in 1874. The painting shows the influence of John Everett Millais's "My First Sermon" exhibited as No. 7 at the Royal Academy in 1863. Frederick Morgan married a fellow artist, Alice Havers, on 13 April 1872, and they lived at the address at 5 Clyde Street in the early 1870s. *Provenance: G Turk Esq., High Street, Wanstead, Essex, 1898. The Estate of Mrs Nora Waugh, Chigwell Hall, Chigwell, Essex, 1982 and latterly Wimborne, Dorset £3000-4000
