English biochemist (1861–1947) who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 1929, with Christiaan Eijkman, for the discovery of vitamins, despite the discovery generally being attributed to Casimir Funk. ALS signed “F. Gowland Hopkins,” one page, 4.5 x 7, University of Cambridge School of Biochemistry letterhead, no date. Handwritten letter to a collector, in part: "I enclose my autograph in accordance with your wish. As United States stamps do not frank letters posted in England, I have used a fresh envelope.'
