Frederick Goddard Tuckerman: Three Books, ALS
Frederick Goddard Tuckerman: Three Books and an Autograph Letter Signed "F. G. Tuckerman". One page with postscript and name of addressee on verso, 7.5" x 9.25" sheet, Cambridge MA , May 12, 1840, to his father Edward Tuckerman. He talks about settling back in to his studies, the weather, and various family matters. The P.S. reads, "Mr. Greenleaf sends his regards and intends writing, the next opportunity." This likely refers to Simon Greenleaf, one of the principal founders of the Harvard Law School. Tuckerman is regarded as one of the least known and most neglected (yet very talented) of nineteenth century American poets. Also in this lot are three rare and desirable editions of his works.
Poems. (Boston: Printed by John Wilson and Son, 1860), first self-published edition, 253 pages, textured brown cloth boards, 12mo (5" x 7.5").
