First son of President U. S. Grant (1850–1912) who graduated from West Point in 1871 and served in the Indian Wars, Spanish-American War, and Philippine-American War; he married married Ida Marie Honore in 1874. ALS signed “F. D. Grant,” two pages, 4.5 x 7, March 30, 1889. Letter to a gentleman. In part: “I prize most highly the good wishes and approval of my father’s friends and admirers.” Affixed to the bottom of the letter is an ink signature, “Ida Honore Grant, widow of, General Frederick Dent Grant,” on an off-white 3.5 x 2.75 card. Central vertical and horizontal folds (the vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature), light scattered toning and soiling, and a few tack holes, otherwise fine condition.
