He was known for his paintings of birds and animals of all kinds, and he endowed them with human and humorous attributes. Autograph letter signed, two pages 8vo, on separate leaves, first and fourth pages, N. Y. Carnegie Hall, July 21, 1912, Sunday PM, to Mrs. Dr. Dudley Tenney, Machester, Vermont. Church writes: <I>"I come in from the country this PM I was sketching an old Hen with chicks, but it rained so hard she got disgusted and took her chicks off to the coop and I took a train for N. Y. My excuse for writing is that I went over to the N. Y. Club to dine and was invited to sit down with 'Dud' and Mr. Brown?. What a lovely boy you have and he entertained us with a lot of funny stories. may he live long and prosper. Hope you are feeling well. That Empire Hotel your at I think is fine I spent two weeks there once with M. Gehley? and family. Kind regards to the Doctor. Yours F. S. Church."</B></I> At the top of the first page is a drawing of a Man painting at an easel, with the old Hen and her five chicks and rain coming down. Very fine condition.
