Fred Harman - Original Comic Strip Art for Red
Fred Harman - Original Comic Strip Art for Red Ryder Sunday dated 4-5-59 (United Features Syndicate, 1959). What's so great about Red Ryder, you ask? Sure, the Lone Ranger may have been more mysterious, and Roy Rogers may have been a better singer, but how many cowboy stars actually had a BB gun named after them? Just one: Red Ryder! (The Daisy Red Ryder air-rifle is manufactured to this day). Want to know something else cool about this star of movies, radio, and TV? He was the first adventure hero to have a kid sidekick. Little Beaver made the scene a full year before a certain Boy Wonder (Little Beaver was played by the infamous Robert Blake in 1944's "Tucson Raiders"). He even boasted one of the longest running Western comics ever published. His 17-year run was bested only by Marvel's Rawhide Kid and Kid Colt, Outlaw. Let's face it, Red was cool! The Sunday page offered here, by Red's creator, Fred Harman, is a great example of this classic strip. Featuring Red, Little Beaver, and Ol'-Timer, it would be hard to find a better piece for the true Western fan. Measuring approximately 27.5" x 19.25" overall, and in excellent condition, the piece is signed by Harman in the last panel. Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Since eBay bids are not shown to us until we open the lot on the floor, we treat those bids just like floor bids. In most cases the floor responds before the eBay bid is presented to us, due to Internet lag time, so for consistency we have made it a policy that floor bids are always considered first over tie eBay live bids. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
