Provanance: No. 20 in the exhibition Paintings of the Countryside by Fred Hall 1860-1948, 9th-20th May 1984, Newbury District Museum, The Wharf, Newbury.
Many paintings by this artist have been previously sold by these rooms, as Fred Hall was one of the Newbury's most prolific artists, moving there in 1911 where he lived until his death in 1948. He was personally known by a past partner of Dreweatt Neate, who would drive the artist out to a location whilst attending appointments himself. This work demonstrates the artists' loose but confident handing of the medium in a realistic rather than naturalistic manner, and conveys a careful observation of light and atmospheric conditions.
