His early covers for DC were exciting designs filled with pertinent background props that conveyed a complete story to the reader before the comic was ever opened. This awesome image of counterfitters and boys in peril is enthralling in its dramatic use of lighting and composition that give the viewer the same "through the window" perspective of the boy on the other side of the room. Guardineer retired from the comic industry in 1955. He did a very few cover recreations, such as this one, in the early 1980s. This piece is nicely done in the way that Guardineer tried to remain faithful to the original. It was rendered on older illustration board and he purposefully used white out around the title lettering and didn't erase some of the ruled pencil lines for his signature. He did make some subtle changes to detail to distinguish it from the original -- which may not even exist. This piece is in excellent condition and measures 15" x 20". <B>Estimate: $2,000-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
