This is an extraordinary hand carved folk art wooden bull figure from the Frawley Ranch near Spearfish, South Dakota. The sides of the crate show original early South Dakota Branding Iron "Brands". Patrick Henry Frawley was a successful lawyer in the Deadwood, South Dakota area who established the Frawley Ranch in the 1890's. He amassed vast real estate holdings by buying up unsuccessful farms and mining claims. By 1913, his investments totaled nearly 5000 acres. The ranch was operated by family until the late 1900's when it was sold to developers. This is truly an excellent piece of hand carved early American Folk Art that most likely has an early 20th Century age. The carved bull figure is in good condition and comes in a wooden crate. The crate measures 6.5" x 14.5" and is 10.5" tall.
