Frasier (TV - 2023) – Antique Goyard Trunk – 53-857
This exceptional antique Goyard cabin trunk (measuring 36” x 21” x 13”) was acquired by the production for use by Kelsey Grammer as “Dr. Frasier Crane” and Anders Keith as “David Crane” in the season one episode titled “The Good Father.” In addition to its use on screen, the trunk was prominently featured in the promotional campaign for the series, appearing in key marketing materials and posters. Careful examination reveals distinctive markings and wear patterns that match exactly with those seen in the promotional materials and on-screen scenes, verifying it as the exact hero trunk used in the series.
This rare example of Goyard’s craftsmanship dates to the early 20th century and reflects the iconic style and durability that has made the brand a symbol of refined travel since the 1800s. The trunk features Goyard’s signature hand-painted chevron canvas in dark tones, accented by reinforced brass hardware, wooden slats, and deep brown leather trim. The sides are branded with stenciled markings including “RUE SAINT-HONORÉ PARIS,” adding to its authenticity and unique character. The trunk also bears a brass handle plate stamped "E. GOYARD PARIS" and retains an original brass destination plaque marked “MONTE-CARLO—BIARRITZ,” suggesting a life of high society travel.
The interior of the trunk is just as striking, lined in vibrant orange quilted satin with lattice ribbon trim, still in exceptional condition and visually stunning. The aged patina, dents, and travel scuffs across the wood, brass, and leather not only highlight its use over time but also make this a true piece of functional history.
Goyard, founded originally as the House of Martin in 1792, is one of the world’s oldest trunk and luxury leather goods manufacturers. The business was renamed in 1853 after being passed down to François Goyard, who began as an apprentice in 1845. Known for its dedication to handcraftsmanship, Goyard served the packing and travel needs of European nobility, aristocrats, and tastemakers throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. This trunk stands as a testament to that legacy and offers collectors a tangible link between timeless fashion, historical craftsmanship, and modern pop culture.
