One photo album completely filled with hand-numbered and titled photo post cards taken by Burton Frasher (1888-1954) of Pomona, CA. This looks to be a travelling photo album that the photographer took on the road with him to display and sell his post cards. The photos in this album are preponderantly from the Bridgeport, Mono County area and are for the most part scenic views. Some include people and animals and others are simply gorgeous views of nature. Frasher started his commercial photography business in 1914. He moved his studio to Pomona, California in 1921, where he began to sell his picture post card views of the Southwest. By the end of the 1920s his post card business—initially a sideline—had become so popular with the public that it eventually surpassed his other endeavors and became his main occupation. He traveled throughout California, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, ranging up into Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, and down through Baja, California and Sonora, Mexico, taking pictures of anything that might be commercially viable. The business expanded during the Depression and pre-war years, to the degree that Frasher could hire photographers to double as salesmen, travelling the Southwest taking new views and selling postcards. In 1948, over 3.5 million "Frasher Fotos" postcards were sold nationwide. He died in 1955, by which time he was considered the Southwest's most prolific photographer [Ref: www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt6s2019xp/]. -59481
