German soldier and politician; he served as vice chancellor of Germany under Hitler and was later acquitted of major war crimes. TLS signed “Papen,” one page, 8.5 x 11, January 6, 1915. Letter to journalist William Conant Church about Ersatz Corps. In part: “An Ersatz corps, i. e. a corps that is composed of Ersatz fomations, requires more time for its organization because the different arms have to be trained before they can take the field. The time necessary for this training varies. It is reasonable to assume that Germany does not need as much time for the organization of Ersatz troops as England because the personell [sic] was well as the localities and the material necessary for training soldiers are much more abundant in Germany than in England.” Chipping and paper loss to edges, two punch and staple holes to first page, pencil notations to first page, mild toning and intersecting folds, otherwise very good condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
