German painter (1880–1916) who was one of the principal figures of the Expressionist movement. Though he was among several notable artists whose names were on a list to be withdrawn from combat during World War I, he was killed by a grenade at the Battle of Verdun before the order could be carried out. Scarce ALS in German, on the correspondence side of a 5.5 x 3.5 postcard, postmarked April 19, 1910. Letter to publisher Reinhard Piper in Munich. In part: "Your beautiful books are now arrived - my sincere thanks for your liberal attention! I have refreshed me right on the collection Delacroix pictures, a wonderful collection. Harunobu is also delicious…My yesterday's correction program, you will have received. Do you want to bring me your sister, Miss. with a polite greeting in the mood? Similar to H. Hammelmann.” In fine condition, with cramped signature, and a couple pencil notations to address side. RRAuction COA.
