German painter (1880-1916) who was one of the principal figures of the Expressionist movement. Though he was among several notable artists whose names were on a list to be withdrawn from combat during World War I, he was killed by a grenade at the Battle of Verdun before the order could be carried out. ALS in German, signed “Frz. Marc,” one page, 5.5 x 8.75, no date. Letter to a Mr. Low, in part (translated): "My sincere thanks for your great attention to gift me with such a splendid ribbon. I really enjoyed it. Perhaps you will find attached to the lithograph, two 'Edelmarder' pleasures." In very good to fine condition, with partial splitting to the hinge and moderate overall foxing.
