Much lauded and influential Czech-born writer (1883–1924) whose man-turned-insect story Metamorphosis (1915) and novel The Trial (1925) have earned a permanent and prominent place in the canon of modern literature. Mailing envelope addressed in Kafka’s hand to his financée, Felice Bauer, in Berlin, 6.25 x 4, postmarked February 7, 1913, signed within his return address on the reverse “Abs Dr. F. Kafka.” Some scattered light soiling to both sides, and a torn top edge affecting the beginning portion of signature, otherwise fine condition. Kafka was twice engaged to Bauer, but their relationship permanently ended in 1917.
