<B>Franz Joseph,</B></I><B><I> Star Fleet Technical Manual</B></I></B></I><B> First Edition</B></I> (New York: Ballantine Books, 1975), unpaginated, illustrated, red softcover in vinyl binder, 4to (11” x 8.5”). Calling himself a “United Federation Representative of Starfleet Command,” Franz Joseph and his daughter created a large collection of drawings detailing technical paraphernalia from the <I>Star Trek</B></I> TV series. In 1973, he sent copies to Gene Roddenberry, who suggested that Joseph ask his wife, Majel Barrett, the owner of Lincoln Enterprises, a producer of <I>Trek</B></I> memorabilia, for help in creating a manual. Published in 1975, the <I>Star Fleet Technical Manual</B></I> reached number-one on the <I>New York Times</B></I> trade paperback list. Within a year, Paramount and Roddenberry contracted to begin work on <I>Star Trek: The Motion Picture</B></I> (1979).
