Franz Fedier (1922-2005), Abstract Painting ‘Black Sky’, 1957
This image, titled ‘Schwarzer Himmel’ (=Black Sky) was created by the German-Swiss artist Franz Fedier in 1957. Thus it dates to the period from 1956 to 1963, when Fedier was active alternating in Bern and Paris. The abstract composition is divided into two parts. The upper area is entirely painted in black, depicting the ‘black sky’. The lower part is primed in white; black lines and grey fields segment this area into fields.

On the reverse is the title ‘Schwarzer Himmel’, as well as further inscriptions. The painting is in good condition with signs of age and wear. The colour surface displays craquelure, partially with some tiny colour losses and some retouching in the lower area. The frame of wood strips shows nicks on the edges. The dimensions of the stretcher frame are 100 x 81 cm, and the total dimensions are framed 102 x 83 cm.
