This fine Alpine view is the work of the Austrian landscape painter Franz Alt (1821-1914). It shows a view of the Swiss monastery of Engelberg with mountain range in the background. The painting offers a coherent depiction of the perspectives and extremely nuanced shades that are particularly remarkable in the green of the valley and the warm tones of the mountains.



The work is signed lower left, 'Franz Alt'. It is matted to the upper edge. It is in good condition, showing light wear. The paper is somewhat yellowed and foxed due to age. In the lower left corner, there is a minimal paper loss. The black wood frame shows some minor nicks and cracks. The overall dimensions, framed, are 75.5 x 87.5 cm. The paper is 33 x 44.5 cm in size.
