Frans Wouters (Lierre 1612 -1659 Antwerp) Satyr, eavesdropping on a sleeping nymph, oil on wood, 36x 41 cm, w/ frame, (Wo).€ 18.000 - 22.000 US $ 17.820 - 21.780 Wouters, a student of Rubens, was a painter of genre- and history painting, as well as of religious and mythological landscape and figures. 1634 master in the Antwerp guild, 1636 at the court of Emperor Ferdinand II in Vienna, 1637 connection with Anthonis van Dyck in London, 1641 return to Antwerp and collaboration with Pieter van Avont. In his oeuvre, the landscape achieves a particular significance and balance, and both the generous foliage as well as the radiant blue sky are typical of this artist. There is a visible Venetian influence and his mythological and biblical figures are always varied and harmonious at the same time.
