Belgian-born artist (1889–1972) best known as one of the 20th century’s most skilled practitioners in the art of the woodcut. ALS in French, one page, 5.25 x 8.25, June 11, 1965. Letter to Robert Alfredson. In part (translated): “I am going to ask my publisher to send you a catalogue of my last works, illustrated books and the series of wood engravings. I am in good health and working hard. My first publication is a suite of woodcuts of Hamburg, published in 1964, of which here is the announcement.” Included is the aforementioned announcement, bearing an image of one of his woodcuts, which Masreel has labeled “Hamburg.” In fine condition.
